When it comes to gift-giving, you can never go wrong with a bouquet of flowers. They’re the classic choice that can easily brighten someone’s day.

However, when you steer away from the standard displays and opt for a customised arrangement, you’re adding a more personal value to the flowers. More than a simple gesture, personalised flower bouquets can also be an expression of a heartfelt message.
The good news is that Flowers Across Sydney has a Create a Bouquet tool that allows you to choose the flowers, fillers, and colours you want for your floral arrangement.
Create a Bouquet with Flowers Across Sydney
Customising a bouquet with your preferred flowers is easy with Flowers Across Sydney. All you need to do is use our Create a Bouquet tool and follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Choose the Presentation
Choose how you want your flowers to be presented—either as a bouquet, boxed arrangement, or in a vase.
Step 2: Select up to Three Different Flowers
Once you’ve chosen between a bouquet, boxed arrangement, or vase, the next step is to choose up to three flowers for your arrangement. You can select from over 20 flowers, including roses, carnations, lilies, and tulips.
What’s great about the Create a Bouquet tool is that it makes choosing flowers easy, too. After selecting a flower, the tool will recommend other flowers that will go well with it. For instance, if you choose quicksand roses, you can add either Singapore orchids or gypsophila to the arrangement.
Step 3: Include Foliage
If you want to add texture and volume to your flower arrangement, for an additional fee, you can opt for foliage. Our expert florists will select the right foliage that will look great with your chosen flowers. However, if you want to highlight your beautiful blooms, simply select “No Foliage.”
Step 4: Select the Colours
If you have preferences for the colour palette, go to this section and click the drop-down. You can select from options such as mixed pastels, mixed brights, pinks, and yellows. Note that one of the options under the drop-down list is “Florist’s Choice.” Select this option if you don’t have any colour preferences.
Step 5: Select a Value
The next step is to choose the value of your arrangement. You can select from $60 to $200, and our florists will make up your order to the amount you requested.
Step 6: Provide Your Delivery Info
Click the first drop-down and choose the suburb where you want the flowers to be delivered. Note that the prices vary depending on the delivery location. However, for no delivery fees, you can pick up your order from our Marrickville warehouse (make sure to choose this option from the list).
Finally, select your delivery date and time. The standard delivery time is between 9 am and 7 pm. Alternatively, for an additional fee, you can have your flowers delivered before 2 pm.
To finalise your order, click “Continue to secure checkout.” There, you will confirm your delivery options, provide special instructions, and enter your billing and payment details. You can also add special extras such as balloons, teddy bears, and sweets.
Why Customising a Flower Arrangement is a Good Idea
From adding a creative touch to expressing your genuine care, there are plenty of reasons why you should customise your bouquet.
1. Commemorating Treasured Memories
Personalised flowers can reflect treasured memories, which also means that they can hold unique value for both the giver and the recipient of the present. When you select blooms that are tied to meaningful moments, you can transform a gift into something more than a simple arrangement.
For example, if it’s for an anniversary, you can choose flowers that were used from your wedding bouquet. On the other hand, if you’re thinking of a gift for your mother, you can add blooms from your childhood garden to give the arrangement that nostalgic feel.
By taking this approach, you’re showing thoughtfulness that will make the recipient feel valued and seen. What’s more, giving these personal touches can turn ordinary blooms into presents that resonate deeply with special memories and emotions.
2. Highlighting Your Unique Style
When you want a décor or a gift that showcases your unique style, consider creating your own bouquet. Whether it’s a personalised flower box or bouquet, you can highlight what you love, who you are, and how you feel. By selecting the presentation, including the flowers and fillers, a custom arrangement can tell your story.
For example, if you find beauty in simplicity and stillness, opt for white lilies. On the other hand, if you have a fun personality, you can create a bouquet filled with colourful, vibrant tulips.
The best part is, you can use customised arrangements for any occasion. If you’re organising your birthday party and you’re a big outdoorsy person, you can opt for whimsical blooms like sunflowers and gerberas. With their bright colours, they will remind you of those unforgettable sunny summer days. Meanwhile, if you’re wondering what to give to a friend who likes to stand out, you can go for exotic blooms like orchids or irises.
3. Complementing Any Event Theme
As mentioned, flower arrangements can be customised to match any event theme. Whether you’re looking for a gift for a small, big, serious, or happy occasion, personalised bouquets can suit any occasion. The key is to choose flowers that perfectly capture the event’s vibe.
Let’s say you’re gifting your parents an arrangement for their 25th wedding anniversary, and you want a present that can reflect the amount of love that they’ve shared over the years. What better way to express love than to create a bouquet filled with red roses or pink carnations?
What if you’re giving gifts for a baby shower? Pair those baby essentials with peonies or hydrangeas. These flowers can be a beautiful way to usher in new beginnings for your expecting friend, bringing extra sentiment to the event. And if they’re keeping the baby’s gender under wraps, the best approach is to go with neutral tones like soft yellows.
4. Showcasing Creativity
Another great thing about customising your flower arrangement is that you can add elements for extra creativity. For instance, you can pair the blooms with a message that’s handwritten with beautiful calligraphy. You can also place the flowers in keepsake vases, making the gift a treasured one for many years.
If you want to make the bouquet even more personal, you can add items like photographs, heirlooms, or even small mementoes. Not only are you showing artistry in this approach, but you’re also giving the recipient something that they can cherish long after the flowers fade.
5. Expressing Genuine Care
When you want your gift to express how much you appreciate and care for the recipient, consider getting them a custom flower bouquet. You can convey thoughtful consideration by selecting blooms that match their preferences, such as the specific flowers they adore or their favourite colour.
By giving great attention to detail, you’re showing that you truly understand what makes the recipient unique. Besides, it’s not simply about giving someone flowers—it’s about showing that connection through the choices that reflect the person’s character. More than a simple gesture, a personalised flower bouquet, when done right, can be a gift that can strengthen your relationship.
6. Choosing Blooms with Instagram-Worthy Appeal
If you’re giving flowers to someone who shares everything about their life on social media, then the arrangement should be visually appealing and photogenic. Fortunately, what’s great about customising the types of blooms, the colours to include, and the arrangement style is that it allows you to design a showstopping bouquet.
For events, personalised flower boxes and arrangements can serve as lovely accents that can add an extra layer of aesthetic appeal to any photos taken. Aside from being wonderful decorations, they can also become conversation starters that guests may share on their social media. Whether it’s a snapshot with a unique centrepiece or a bouquet, custom flower arrangements are meant to be appreciated and shared with the world.
7. Sharing How You Feel in a Thoughtful Way
Sometimes, words cannot fully encapsulate the way we feel. This is where personalised floral gifts come in. These customised flower arrangements can be used to communicate emotions and convey deeper sentiments. Since every flower represents certain meanings, you can also create a message that is truly personal to the recipient.
For instance, different rose colours carry varied meanings, with red symbolising love, yellow for happiness, pink for refinement, and white for purity. So, depending on the colour you choose, you can express feelings that may resonate deeply with the recipient.
Tips for Customising Your Flower Arrangement
More than a mix of flowers, personalised floral arrangements require purposeful and thoughtful designs. So, when creating a bouquet, consider various factors to ensure your vision becomes a reality in your hands.
When customising a flower arrangement, think about these elements:
Recipient’s Preferences
Think about what kind of flowers the recipient likes. Remember, some people may be sentimental about certain blooms because they are associated with specific memories. Make sure to consider their flower preferences to create a personal connection for your arrangement.
Colour Palette
The recipient of your gift will appreciate the amount of thought you put into the arrangement if you choose flowers in their favourite colour. However, if you don’t have that information, you can also opt for widely loved colour palettes such as bold reds, neutral tones, and soft pastels.
Occasion
Are you buying flowers for Valentine’s Day? Perhaps you’re looking for the perfect floral gift for an anniversary or a birthday. Always consider the occasion when customising the arrangement. This way, the overall design will match the atmosphere, whether it’s joyous or solemn.
Personalised Message
While clipping a small note to the arrangement can be a delightful gesture, adding a personalised message with a creative presentation can elevate your gift. Instead of using a standard card for your message, consider writing it on a small canvas or an ornate piece of stationery. As mentioned, adding creative touches like this can turn your message into a keepsake that the recipient will treasure long after the flowers are gone.
Seasonal and Eco-Friendly Flowers
While certain flowers can be cultivated to be available throughout the year, they usually look best during the season when they naturally bloom. If you want your custom floral arrangement to look extra beautiful, consider adding flowers that are in season. Aside from enhancing the visual appeal of your bouquet, seasonal blooms can also support sustainability. After all, they’re likely to be locally sourced, reducing the impact associated with long transits.
Choosing the Ideal Flowers to Convey Your Message
When creating a memorable custom floral arrangement, ensure the flowers tell a story. As such, you must know the symbolism that different flowers carry. This way, you can choose blooms that can add a layer of emotion and sentiment to your personalised bouquet.
To help you select the ideal blooms, we’ve created a list of flowers and their meanings:
Roses

Love and passion are the two things that usually come to mind when you think about roses. However, the meaning of these flowers can also change with their colour. For instance, red symbolises romance and profound love, making it perfect for Valentine’s Day or anniversaries. Since white roses represent new beginnings and purity, they’re perfect for baby showers or weddings. The same meaning holds true for quicksand roses with their pale pinkish hue.
Oriental Lilies

Aside from having a dramatic appeal, fragrant oriental lilies also symbolise elegant beauty, purity, and prosperity. So, if you want a custom bouquet to impress someone, these sophisticated flowers are the perfect choice. What’s more, they’re ideal as gifts for important milestones, such as a major anniversary or a birthday. At the same time, they can be a graceful get-well-soon gesture.
LA Lilies

Because LA lilies are a combination of longiflorum and Asiatic lilies, they offer the gentle beauty of both flowers. What’s more, these elegant flowers symbolise a joyful and prosperous life. While their blooms are slightly smaller than those of oriental lilies and they have a subtler scent, they can still be quite versatile. LA lilies are the ideal gift for someone celebrating their birthday or a new chapter in their life.
Lisianthus

With their beautifully ruffled petals, lisianthus flowers are the perfect token for someone you share a lifelong bond with or a person with a charismatic quality. Often, people gift them to express gratitude and appreciation. Plus, you can find them in a wide range of colours, including pink, red, purple, and blue. So, you can easily customise a bouquet using the hues that the recipient will love.
Gerberas

With their colourful and bold blooms, gerberas signify cheerfulness. Depending on the colour, these flowers can also symbolise purity and innocence. However, no matter what you choose, gerberas are sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. So, if someone you know is recovering from illness, these flowers are the perfect gift to cheer them up. Aside from that, gerberas can be the vibrant centrepiece for joyous occasions such as birthdays.
Tulips

Tulips are sophisticated flowers with varied meanings depending on their colour. For instance, if you want to make someone happy, the yellow ones would be the ideal option. On the other hand, red tulips are ideal for expressing deep love and devotion. And because these flowers usually bloom during the spring season, they’re the perfect choice to celebrate new beginnings or another year spent with your partner.
Chrysanthemums

Lovingly referred to as “mums,” chrysanthemums signify friendship, joy, and well-wishes. Also, they’re an excellent choice when you’re creating a bouquet and you want to add a full texture to the arrangement. And if you want to communicate “I love you” with flowers, opt for the disbud variety with the rounded shape. Besides, they’re great when you want to make a grand gesture, especially since they’re the more sophisticated version of traditional mums.
Iris

Available in white, red, yellow, and more popularly in purple, iris blooms symbolise faith, hope, and wisdom. They also have uniquely shaped petals that make them stand out in an arrangement. When you want to encourage someone during a difficult time or a new chapter in their life, add irises to your bouquet.
Singapore Orchids

Signifying beauty, opulence, and strength, Singapore orchids can be an elegant addition to your custom flower bouquet. Aside from having an exotic appeal, their delicate beauty also makes them the ideal choice as a gesture when you want to express deep admiration or respect. Additionally, the luxurious blooms of Singapore orchids can elevate the atmosphere at any high-end event.
Snapdragon

Snapdragon flowers look like a dragon’s mouth opening and snapping shut, making them look quite whimsical in any personalised floral arrangement. Besides, their meanings, grace and strength, add to their unique charm. Like Singapore orchids, snapdragons can be an excellent choice when you want to convey admiration, especially for someone who rose above challenging times.
Freesias

Widely popular because of their funnel-shaped blooms and sweet, delicate scent, freesias signify thoughtfulness, purity, and security. They also symbolise genuine friendship, which is why they can be a wonderful present for a dear friend. You can also add freesias to your personalised arrangement when you want to convey sincere apologies.
Sweet William

Sweet Williams are short-lived perennials belonging to the carnation family. With their clusters of fringed petals, they can add lovely texture to your customised flower bouquet. And because they represent polite affection and perfection, they can be a wonderful gift for a first date.
Alstroemeria

Also referred to as Peruvian lilies, alstroemerias signify mutual support and devotion. Since their blooms are available in various colours and they last for a long time, they are the ideal addition to a bouquet for celebrating a friendship.
Asters

Also resembling daisies, asters are fall-blooming flowers that represent valour, faith, and wisdom. With their dainty appeal, they look great as filler blooms for bouquets alongside freesias, disbuds, or LA lilies. Asters got their name from their star-like blooms, and in ancient times, people believed that burning their leaves would produce a scent that could ward off evil. In some way, that belief still holds true to this day because asters are usually given as gifts when you want to wish someone a blessed and happy life.
Carnation

Carnations are versatile flowers, especially since they hold various meanings depending on their colour. For instance, for expressing affection and pure love, opt for red blooms. When you want to show your appreciation for someone, the pink ones would be the ideal option. On the other hand, for wishing someone luck, a bouquet of white carnations with disbuds would be perfect.
Delphinium

With their tall and striking spikes, delphiniums are the epitome of having a brave heart that’s open to new, positive experiences. When you’re creating a bouquet, you can use these flowers to add drama and height to the arrangement. What’s more, it can be a great gift for someone starting a new role in a company or graduating from school and opening a new chapter in their life.
Gypsophila

More commonly known as “baby’s breath,” gypsophila blooms signify purity, innocence, and love, which is why you commonly see them as filler flowers in wedding floral arrangements. So, if you’re creating a bouquet and you want to add delicate texture to the arrangement, use stalks of gypsophila sparingly.
Hypericum
Also known as St. John’s Wort, hypericums are flowering plants with buds that resemble berries. As such, they wonderfully add texture and a pop of colour to arrangements, acting as fillers for big-bloomed flowers like LA lilies, sunflowers, oriental lilies, and disbuds. Bouquets with hypericums are a great choice for get-well-soon presents or for wishing someone the best on their new journey.
Sea Holly
If you’re creating a unique bouquet and you want to steer away from traditional style blooms, the unusual, spiky flower heads of sea holly might be what you’re after. Because of their interesting texture, sea hollies can provide an unexpected element to your arrangement. With their silvery-blue hue, these perennial plants represent independence and resilience. What’s more, you can give sea hollies as a gift to someone who has had to endure hardships and rise above challenges.
Sunflowers

The ultimate symbols of loyalty, adoration, long life, and happiness, sunflowers are often gifted as lucky charms for someone starting a new job or a chapter in their life. Besides, their large yellow blooms can easily make anyone happy. So, if you’re personalising a bouquet and you want to put a smile on someone’s face, you’ll never go wrong with sunflowers.
